An accomplished composer and screenwriter, John Ross Jesensky’s professional exploits have showcased his diverse musical talents and have garnered consistent praise from his peers in the industry. The prolific Los Angeles-based composer, orchestrator and pianist has created short film scores that have been recognized with awards from the Cannes Film Festival, La Gona Film Festival, Bare Bones Film Festival and Phoenix Film Festival.
Mr. Jesensky’s current work involves serving as the engraver for CineConcerts, a role in which he lends his talents to creating feature-length film scores for live orchestra performances that are fully restored. In addition to his work with CineConcerts, Mr. Jesensky also works as a freelancer, creating scores for short and feature-length films for several top production companies while also scoring trailers and creating source music as well.
As an undergraduate student at the Hartt School of Music, Mr. Jesensky benefited from the good fortune of being able to learn under the guidance of composers that include David Macbride, Stephen Gryc, Larry Alan Smith and Joseph Turrin. After he earned an undergraduate degree while studying music in composition, Mr. Jesensky moved on to graduate school at New York University and expanded his learning experience by also privately studying with Sonny Kompanek, a widely respected film orchestrator, along with Ira Newborn, a film composer held in high regard for his consistently impressive and prodigious output. Mr. Jesensky continued to excel as a student while at NYU, earning his graduate degree in music while also being recognized with the Elmer Bernstein Award for Film Composition.
During his time at NYU, Mr. Jesensky was also lauded for his work scoring Season’s Greetings, a short film by Michael Daugherty. The score won the Skirball Film Scoring Competition and was subsequently performed by the NYU orchestra as part of a live concert. Having enjoyed success on both the East and West Coasts, Mr. Jesensky is a respected professional whose work is held in high regard and is in consistent demand.
